Most of us are familiar with the stretch of road on the opposite side of the river that runs from Webster to Monessen. Here is a photo from 60 years ago from The Daily Republican. They reported that a boy, John Antonio from Donora, got stuck 75 feet up and was rescued by the Monessen Fire Department. I wonder what ever became of John and his dog. There was never a follow-up story, as far as I can tell. There is a possibility that the newspaper misspelled the boy’s name, so it could be the common Italian surname D’Antonio.
If you know John or remember what happened, leave a message in the comment section below or send me an email on my contact page. It would be awesome to hear the rest of the story!
