A few headlines from today’s issue of the Mon Valley Independent:
★ GRANTS FOR DONORA – Donora Industrial Park gets $2 Million grant for expansion. This is great news for the valley, but why do Donora, Speers, and Bentleyville always get the multimillion-dollar industrial grants but never anything to develop industrial sites in Monongahela or New Eagle? Why not also develop the blighted Flexicore property behind Monongahela city hall or the old West Penn Power Mitchell Station in Courtney, or the mine property in New Eagle?
★ NEW LAW – A new law is now in effect requiring all ice and snow to be removed from your vehicle within 24 hours after a winter storm. This law is in response to a Pennsylvania woman who was killed on Christmas Day, 2005 when a large sheet of ice blew off a passing truck and crashed through her windshield.
★ OTHER STORIES – Monongahela’s Scarf in the Park Project. Allegheny Co. tourism grants awarded (no mention of anything awarded to Forward Twp. or Elizabeth Borough). Donora VFC hosts training for first responders. BVA track and field team is hosting the “Turkey Trot 5k” on Thanksgiving day at 8AM (see MT event calendar for more details.)
